Food photography in Wrocław: how to plan a session for menus, Pyszne.pl and Glovo

Wrocław hosts Pyszne.pl's headquarters, but local restaurants depend on more than just Pyszne. Glovo, Wolt, Uber Eats, in-house delivery and dine-in revenue all live on photography. Customers open an app, swipe through a dozen thumbnails in 20 seconds and pick one. If the photo does not stop the thumb, the dish does not sell.

Wrocław food scene in 2026: a plate photo is an ad

Most Wrocław restaurants still upload phone shots taken next to the window. That is exactly why even a modest food photography session today moves more revenue than a 1000 PLN Meta Ads budget. This article explains how to plan such a session in Wrocław, what to avoid and what to put in the brief if you are commissioning a food photographer for the first time.

Three types of food content a restaurant needs in 2026

    1. Delivery app photos (Pyszne.pl, Glovo, Wolt)

Square or vertical frame, uniform background, hard exposure, faithful colour. Not about art, about a 4-inch thumbnail reading clearly.

    2. Menu photography

More compositional, with props (napkin, cutlery, second plate, hand, wine glass). This is where venue identity comes through. A burger bar needs different styling from a wine bar.

    3. Social media and campaigns

Vertical video, short clips, close-up plating shots, pour shots, ASMR. Increasingly broken down into 15 to 30 frame libraries per campaign. Uploading the same photo to Pyszne.pl, the printed menu and the Instagram ad means every channel converts worse than it could. A 2026 food session should be designed by channel, not as a generic plate photo.

Studio or restaurant? Two models and when each makes sense

    Shoot on location

Pros: real kitchen, real plating, real atmosphere. Excellent lifestyle. Cons: hard to keep light consistent across dishes, noisy, serving staff has to support shoot and guests at once, limited backgrounds.

    Shoot in studio

Pros: light control, repeatable backgrounds, restyling in 5 minutes, no time pressure. Cons: dishes have to be transported in fresh form, a chef or food stylist must be on set. Rule of thumb: app and menu photos belong in the studio, lifestyle social media content belongs on location. Studio gives consistency and conversion, the venue gives authenticity.

How to plan a food shoot in studio

    Step 1: dish list

Maximum 12 to 15 dishes in one shoot day. Above that, dishes get cold, talent gets tired, quality drops.

Step 2: a food stylist or chef on set

A serious food shoot is never a solo photographer shoot. Someone has to plate, retouch the dish, clean a sauce rim. If the photographer does it all, the session takes twice as long.

    Step 3: backgrounds and props

Wood, stone, concrete, linen tablecloth, marble slab. Wrocław food studios typically stock 4 to 6 backgrounds. Confirm the list with the photographer three days before the shoot.

    Step 4: lighting

Food photography lives on continuous light plus a window, not on flash. Reason: you can see steam rising from soup change during the exposure in real time. That is why a studio with Nanlite matters more for you than a studio with the best flash.

    Step 5: dish schedule

Cold and dry dishes first (sandwiches, salads, charcuterie boards). Then dishes that lose their look fast (fries, pizza, ice cream). Reheatable dishes last (soups, stews).

    Step 6: technical backup

Spare memory card, second lens, second tripod, headlamp. A food shoot does not forgive lost files.

What SPOT Studio offers the gastro segment

SPOT Studio runs two Wrocław locations. For food shoots, the most-booked space is SPOT 2.0 60 m² at Solskiego 6: easy unloading, free parking, an in-studio kitchen annex (for heat control and final plating), full Nanlite continuous light kit, tables and natural backgrounds. For larger productions (30 dishes plus video plus full team) we use SPOT 150 m² with the cyclorama, because the space splits comfortably into two parallel crews. Rentals from one hour, all gear included, online booking.

A plate photo inside a delivery app is the cheapest ad a restaurant has today.
